As young, empowered women of the California Academy of Mathematics and Science, we strive to better the health and wellness of our community by working to reduce the amount of plastic waste in our local beaches and lakes. As pollution in our oceans continues to increase, CAMS GBLA would like to see the public and the legislature move toward reducing this contamination, and to contribute to the science of testing water for harmful chemicals derived from plastic.
We will do this by spreading awareness of the health-related dangers that plastics in the ocean pose, by encouraging our community to support legislature that would regulate trash disposal in marine areas, and by using the scientific method to design a prototype of an indicator for plastic-derived chemicals in water.
