This year, our group will focus on raising awareness and taking action against domestic abuse. People are aware that domestic abuse occurs in homes all across the globe. However, many choose to turn a blind eye against this issue because they are not directly affected by it. People choose to remain in the dark about domestic abuse because they do not want to face the reality that domestic abuse victims face.
We plan to host public or private presentations and speeches, as well as workshops to raise awareness.
We know that social media plays a big part in awareness, so we will create social media accounts and a website to educate and remind people about domestic violence.
Not only will the public know about domestic violence, but we will also organize events within our school to spread facts and consequences of domestic violence to students.
We hope that we will be able to reach out to non-profit organizations particularly focused on aiding victims of domestic violence so that we would be able to really take action and help domestic violence victims.
Outcomes
Through spreading awareness about domestic violence, we have achieved multiple short-term outcomes such as...
presenting symptoms of violence in loved ones and ways to seek help (via hotlines and shelters) through school presentations.
hosting a “Healthy Relationships” forum, where fellow students could learn how to build and maintain healthy relationships with friends, family, and loved ones.
raising over $250 and organizing a donation drive in order to provide domestic violence victims and their families with necessary resources.
preparing and donating more than 250 care packages to the Rainbow Services Shelter in San Pedro.
And inviting influential figures like the Mayor of Carson and Ms. Fowle from the Women’s March to speak to our school.
Through these small actions made in our local community, we have spread awareness about domestic violence to hundreds of people from our club to different schools. Hopefully, those who have learned about domestic violence may apply these real-life skills and shape the future of those around them. Not only did we show our community how to recognize domestic violence, but the best long-term outcome includes a society that will change lives for the better.
