by Shua Cho Our CAMS Girls Build LA team had a big afterschool retreat meeting on December 5th to plan out the rest of the year and think up some crazy big event ideas! It was a potluck as well, so we had plenty of fuel-um, I mean food, to keep us going as we brainstormed. During the retreat we got our budget, website, and event plans ready for the next GBLA deadline! It was an extremely productive meeting, especially since we had all the pizza we could want! Honestly, that giant bag of hot cheetos is what truly gave me to motivation to get this website organized in time. As we continued to research about domestic violence and practical methods that we could use to assist our community in this area, I was brought back to reality. More than any spicy snack, the real motivator for what we were doing was the 20 people every minute that gets physically abused by an intimate partner in the US (according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence). Once again, I was reminded how grateful I was-how grateful we were that we had this incredible opportunity given to us by the LA Promise Fund to implement positive change in our community and get to learn new things about teamwork, communication, and government along the way. Thank you so much for giving us, just a small group of teen girls, the means to do something unexpected and hugely impactful.
